A visa refusal is the rejection of the application for a non-immigrant visa by the immigration authorities.

Finland’s immigration authorities are called the Finnish Immigration Service and are responsible for the immigration policies, visa application, and refusal services. (https://migri.fi/en/home). The Finnish visa would cost you 60 euros and the visa application process can take up to four weeks. The visa refusal rate for Finland was 3.90% in 2017. Finland is also a signatory to the Schengen Agreement.

The reasons for visa refusal are the same as Schengen visa and the most common factors are that the intention to visit Finland is not mentioned or is not clear or justified, the intention to return to the home country is not satisfactory, the travel insurance coverage is not fulfilled, the passport may be expired or forged, the criminal records are withheld, the documents submitted are not in the correct order or too many documents may be submitted to make an impression which is not appreciated, the funds to cover the expenses during the stay may not be sufficient.

The solutions to the visa refusal are also on the same lines like that for a Schengen visa and include appealing or re-applying for the visa.

The applicant can and the appeal letter/remonstration letter should be filed within one month of the receipt of the rejection letter and only when the applicant has valid grounds to reject the decisions of the immigration authorities. The instructions for the appeal are appended in the rejection letter given by the Embassy.

The applicant can otherwise file for a fresh application for which there is no time gap but it should meet the reasons for the rejection of the visa and should be filed with the Embassy/Consulate of Finland

The fee paid for the visa application is non-refundable and thus the applicant needs to be very cautious while applying for a visa. A Schengen Visa does not guarantee you access to all the Schengen states and the immigration officers do an entry check where they will ask for the visa, passport, travel document and insurance documents. You should have a proof of sufficient funds to justify your duration of travel and should not be banned to visit any Schengen state as that may mean that you are not allowed to visit the common jurisdiction area.
