How to Write an Appeal Letter for Visa Refusal

Introduction

The application for a visa is not as easy as it seems. One is required to collect and submit the documents, appear for an interview and pay the fee for the application process. Even after going through all this hassle, one can never be guaranteed that his/her application will be accepted.

The reasons for rejection can be numerous and so it is always advised to get in touch with a genuine visa agent. Since the rejection rates have been rising, the Embassy has given the candidates the option to appeal in case of visa refusal. So let’s get right into it.

How to Appeal

If your visa application has been rejected, you will get the refusal letter stating the reasons for refusal and it will also let you know whether you can appeal the decision or not. If you are not eligible to appeal, you will have to reapply.

What is an Appeal Letter?

An Appeal Letter is submitted to the embassy of the country which rejected your visa application. The letter should be written only and only if you have strong grounds on which you can appeal the decision. The reasons for overturning your visa rejection should be based on facts, laws, and rules.

You will have to contact the embassy of the specific country to know where you need to file the appeal, the time limit under which it needs to be filed and other relevant information.

How to write an Appeal Letter?

Normally, an appeal letter should contain the same set of documents submitted at the time of applying for the visa. It is a justification of the visa application and so new set of documents will not hold any proof.

One must know that there is no standard way of writing an appeal letter. However, it should be noted that the appeal should be convincing and not to be written in an emotional tone.

The information that is important to be included in the letter is as follows:

  • When did you receive the visa denial decision

  • State the reasons why your visa was refused as given in the refusal letter

  • State the reasons why you believe the rejection was incorrect

  • Write your signature at the end of the letter

The following supporting documents also need to be submitted to the embassy while appealing the decision of refusal. These documents usually will depend on the reasons as to why your visa was rejected in the first place:

A suspicion that you may not return to your home country- Student enrollment, employment contract, Property related documents, Family relationship certificates.

Not demonstrating proof of funds- Current bank statements, letter of support
